Nigerians Call For Tinubu’s Probe Amidst Certificate Scandal In Benin, Togo, Others

Amidst an investigative report on fraudulent certificates from Benin Republic universities, Nigerians on X (formerly known as Twitter) are urging Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman, to begin his crackdown on fake certificate holders with President Bola Tinubu.

World Wide Gist had earlier reported that Mamman plans to involve security agencies in targeting Nigerians who possess fake foreign academic credentials, labelling them as criminals.

Mamman emphasized this approach during his appearance on Channels Television’s programme.

He explained that there’s no expiration date for criminality, indicating that the timing of the crime does not diminish its seriousness.

The discussion has shifted towards individuals already in official positions who might have used counterfeit foreign certificates to secure their roles.

This shift in focus underscores the growing concern over the integrity of academic qualifications among public officials.

Mamman had said, “If along the line, we can trace that there are people already in the system.

“For instance, if a particular institution or operator has been operating, say, in the last 10 years, we will check if we can get records of Nigerians who attended that institution. Once we do that, they are criminals and you know there is no timeframe for criminality. We will trace them.

“As long as we can lay our hands on their institutions and they are right here with us, certainly, the security agencies will go after them because they are criminals.”

Reacting to the minister’s proposed action of security agencies going after fake certificate holders, @brotherbarth in a post on X said that “The Tinubu’s Minister of Education lacks moral ground to go after Nigerians with fake university Certificates, because Tinubu, his boss, submitted fake University Certificate to INEC.”

Also, @collinek47 said, “Let him start from dere then we know he’s doing he’s job well. Abi”

Another tweep, @ajaGunSEgun said, “First and foremost, you have to go after President Tinubu, who lied about attending Saint Paul School, Aroleya, Government colleges in Ibadan and Chicago State University first before you guys begin to go after others certificate forgers like Mr President.”

Also, @iam_wilson said, “Begin with Bola Tinubu,” to which @ElochukwuP said, “Yes let it stand (start) from the head.

@dekezman01 said “Arrest Tinubu first,” while @benson_magbo said “Begin with your president! He’s a certificate forger!”

@moslimfit said “Ask Tinubu first if this is right.

@nalado80 asked “What about BOLA AHMED Tunubu Chicago Result SAGA???”

@ObaTrench said that the minister should “Start with @officialABAT, the Drug dealer that was rigged in as @NGRPresident.”

@AleeyuAutahh told the Minister of Education that “We will surely appreciate if you will maintain justice and set the bar high for this operation. Chicago University certificates should be investigated too.”

@Hadeyolla said, “Start with our president @officialABAT.”

@ApoesoBabatope said that “They should start from the top first o! Leadership by example!!!”

@hillary0424 said, “Let them start from the top , Nigeria has it way to redeem it self but no we choose the side of distortion.”

@NwabudeDaniel2 said, “Arrest Peter mbah first. He forged nysc and became governor of Enugu state. @officialABAT.

“Please I feel so bad that a man could forge such a certificate and it was so proven by @officialnyscng DG yet his governor. It’s too bad.”

Another tweep, @martindbold wrote, “How about the total educational certificates of the current president of Nigeria and his Vice?

“Are they leading by example? Those are two objective questions that some want us to sweep under the carpet. But, the carpet is too full. Objective answers only. Thank you.”

@tjjones0079 said, “Then start with your INEC president, then we can take you serious. Corruption starts from your government.”

@BighomieRay asked, “Where does Tinubu stand in all of this? Is he in support or against?”

@bonnypumping said that the minister should “Start with the National Assembly & House of Representatives. Many of them are using forged documents.”

@victordaberechi said that “If you are not going to start from the president then you are just blabbing.”

@NaijamustBgreat said that “Nigerians will take them serious when ever we see Tinubu in handcuffs for his numerous crimes and forged documents.”

Fake doctor arrested for organ trafficking, N21m fraud in Nasarawa

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a fake doctor, Igwe Gift Okechukwu, involved in criminal conspiracy, organ trafficking, fraud, cybercrime, stealing, impersonation, cheating, and identity theft.

The arrest was made in Nasarawa State by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department following the suspect’s fraudulent activities in Owerri, Imo State.

The suspect, parading himself as Henry Ovie, a neurologist newly transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, tricked a point of sale (POS) operator, Anita Chinwe Mathias, into entering a code on her POS machine.

As a result, the entire sum of twenty-one million naira (N21,000,000) was withdrawn from her account, leading to a police report.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the details of the arrest during a press conference in Abuja.

He outlined the suspect’s modus operandi, where he built trust with the victim, sent a significant amount to her account, and later tricked her into entering a code that facilitated the fraudulent withdrawal.

According to Adejobi, Anita, the complainant, narrated that the suspect used multiple identities and phone numbers, posing as Igwe Richard and Ovie Henry.

“She proceeded to state that on September 11, 2023, the suspect tricked her into entering a code on her POS machine, which she did due to the trust she had for him.

“After the suspect left her place, she noticed that all the money in her POS account was withdrawn, which amounted to the sum of twenty million naira (N21,000,000), and all efforts to reach out to the suspect proved abortive.

“She also went to the Federal Medical Centre, where the suspect claimed to be working, to ask about him and she was told that none of their doctors bears such a name. Immediately, she reported the case to the Force Criminal Investigation Department Abuja, where intelligent officers swung into action to arrest the suspect,” the statement reads in part.

Investigations revealed that the fake doctor had changed his phone number and relocated from Owerri to Lafia, Nasarawa State, where he was subsequently tracked and arrested.

It was further uncovered that the suspect is involved in organ trafficking, with links to a contact in Toronto, Canada.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the commitment of the force to combating crimes and ensuring the safety and security of communities.

The IGP assured Nigerians that an extensive investigation is ongoing, and all perpetrators involved in this heinous act will be brought to justice and charged accordingly.
