‘Leech And Parasite’ – NLC Rejects Julius Abure As Labour Party Chairman Despite Court Order

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has once again rejected Julius Abure’s leadership of the Labour Party (LP), maintaining that the Abuja Federal High Court’s ruling in his favor will not alter their stance.

Recall that on October 8, 2024, Justice Emeka Nwite, validated the Labour Party’s national convention held in Nnewi in March 2024.

The court declared the convention lawful and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the leadership of Abure and the National Working Committee (NWC) elected during the event.

Following the court directive, INEC officially recognized the Barrister Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

INEC’s decision to recognise Abure was disclosed in a letter addressed to Abure and the party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

INEC’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, invited the Labour Party to participate in its fourth consultative meeting with political parties.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday, Theophilus Ndubuaku, acting chairman of the NLC Political Commission, criticized Abure’s leadership, accusing him of undermining the party’s stability ahead of upcoming elections.

Ndubuaku described the court’s ruling as a “gross miscarriage of justice,” pointing out that the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) – both constitutionally recognized in the party’s structure – were not part of the legal proceedings.

The NLC Political Commission sees the judgment as another act of desperation and deceit by Julius Abure and his group, whose only aim is to exploit the Labour Party’s goodwill for personal gain,” Ndubuaku stated.

He further accused Abure of working for external interests aimed at sabotaging the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ndubuaku expressed disappointment over the court’s support for the Nnewi convention, which he claims was conducted in violation of party rules and previous court orders.

He also questioned why the NLC and TUC were excluded from the legal processes.

Ndubuaku said, “The NLC Political Commission views the judgement as another act of desperation and subterfuge by Mr. Julius Abure and his motley of hangers-on merchants who have no other job than to leech and parasitise on the goodwill of the Labour Party in furtherance of their pecuniary interest.

“It is unfortunate that by adopting mischievous and clandestine approach to the judiciary, Mr. Julius Abure and his ilk who are certainly in the employment of entrenched interests bent on sabotaging and destabilising the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general election have continued to pull the wool over the eyes of our justice system.

“We perceive the Justice Omotosho judgement and now the Justice Emeka Nwite’s judgment that appear to give some veneer of legitimacy to the expired leadership of Mr. Julius Abure by venerating the widely vilified Nnewi Convention of the Labour Party illegally conducted by Mr. Abure in violation of extant court judgements, provisions of the Labour Party Constitution and INEC supervised terms of settlement as a gross miscarriage of justice.

“Our position is formed on legal and moral grounds. It is queer that the Nigeria Labour Congress which together with the Trade Union Congress are the only statutory bodies recognised in the Labour Party Constitution were not joined as parties to the two court processes filed by Mr. Abure.”

He noted that Abure failed to honor an agreement made between the National Working Committee (NWC) and the party’s Board of Trustees in April 2022, which was overseen by INEC.

The agreement stipulated that Abure’s term as National Secretary, following the death of the previous chairman, would end in June this year, after which a convention would elect new leadership.

Ndubuaku added that, in line with the agreement, stakeholders had appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman to lead an Interim Caretaker Committee.

The NLC Political Commission supports the Labour Party Interim National Caretaker Committee’s plan to appeal the recent court rulings.

He reassured Labour Party members not to lose hope, labeling Abure and his associates as “errand boys” for a political entity opposed to the Labour Party’s interests.

He expressed confidence that the forces undermining democracy would eventually be exposed, and the will of the people would prevail.

“No matter how many court rulings there are, Julius Abure will never be accepted as the leader by Labour Party members. The fight for justice and democracy will continue, and the people’s will shall triumph,” Ndubuaku concluded.

Tinubu Moves Around FCT At Night To See What Nigerians Are Passing Through – Senator Kalu

Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu usually moves around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, at night to witness what Nigerians are passing through.

The senator representing Abia North Senatorial District stated that the Nigerian leader is aware of the country’s fluttering economy and is taking necessary actions to address the challenges.

“The president himself knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person; he knows the street very well.

“The president sometimes uses his car to go around and find out what is happening in Abuja here,” Kalu stated in Thursday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Naija News recalls that in September 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that the inflation rate in the country reached 32.7 per cent.

Following the elimination of the fuel subsidy and the transition to a floating naira, the prices of essential goods have surged, placing them out of reach for many Nigerians.

However, Senator Kalu contended that the economic difficulties faced are not unique to Nigeria.

He noted that the nation is also grappling with the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly impacted the global economy.

Israel Kills Hamas Chief Responsible For October 7 Massacre

Israel Kills Hamas Chief Responsible For October 7 Massacre

Israel announced on Thursday that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the October 7 attack, was killed, calling it a “heavy blow” to the Palestinian group.

According to the Israeli military, Sinwar was eliminated in an operation in southern Gaza on Wednesday after a year-long pursuit.

Although Hamas has yet to confirm his death, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Sinwar’s death marked a significant defeat for Hamas, though the conflict is far from over.

Netanyahu referred to it as an “important milestone in Hamas’ downfall.”

Foreign Minister Israel Katz labeled Sinwar a “mass murderer” responsible for the October 7 massacre, while President Isaac Herzog praised the killing of the militant behind the attack.

Sinwar, accused of planning the deadliest assault in Israel’s history, had been Israel’s target since the Gaza war began. He rose through Hamas ranks to lead the group after the death of political chief Ismail Haniyeh in July.

Israel’s announcement follows the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah weeks earlier and the deaths of several other Iran-backed commanders.

US President Joe Biden, backing Israel, called the day a significant victory for Israel and a potential opportunity for a political settlement in Gaza.

Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi vowed to continue efforts to capture all those involved in the October 7 attack and bring hostages home.

Sinwar’s death could signal a turning point in Gaza, according to Israeli officials, potentially reshaping the conflict’s dynamics.

However, experts caution that Hamas’ rule over Gaza remains intact, and the hostages still face significant risks.

Israel’s broader military campaign has expanded into Lebanon, where Hezbollah has launched cross-border strikes.

The conflict in Lebanon has already claimed 1,373 lives since the war’s escalation in late September.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, airstrikes have continued, leading to further civilian casualties and worsening humanitarian conditions.

The UN and international observers warn of a growing crisis as winter approaches, with hundreds of thousands in Gaza facing extreme hunger and poverty.

₦14 Million Monthly Income Not Enough For Senators, Says Orji Uzor Kalu

The lawmaker representing Abia North in the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, has revealed that he earns a total of N14 million monthly as a Senator.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Kalu dismissed the widespread belief that lawmakers live in luxury while the masses suffer in poverty.

“I earn N14 million for everything in a month. That is everything encompassing, the overhead, the worker’s salary, everybody,” Kalu stated.

The former governor of Abia State argued that the N14 million is not sufficient to cover his expenses, including travel to his constituency and maintaining his constituency office.

In response to allegations regarding lawmakers being provided luxury official vehicles, Kalu clarified that no personal vehicles are given to Senators. Instead, only committees within the National Assembly receive vehicles for official use.

“I am in the Senate, and a lot of things are said about the Senators. I sit there quietly and watch, and most of these things are not true. All I know is that committees get vehicles, no lawmaker is given any vehicle,” Kalu explained.
